Synod 2022 Prayer Support

Synod 2022 carried unusual weight—the annual assembly had not met for three years; COVID had impacted our ministry in significant ways; three new executive CRCNA positions were recommended; the Human Sexuality Report was discussed; and matters of binationality needed to be sorted out.

For these reasons, the Council of Delegates had approved a prayer initiative for the denomination titled "Together Seeking God's Face." This initiative was woven throughout Synod 2022.

Many congregations and classes had issued similar calls to prayer.

Prayer serves as the primary shaper of all synodical activities and conversations, so that the body might be guided by the mind and character of Christ (Phil. 2:5-11). During the week of synod, delegates were supported by a prayer team, intercessors, and chaplains.

Here are some of the other prayer activities that led up to Synod 2022:

  • Three special prayer meetings for all delegates and advisers.
  • Monthly virtual prayer meetings that were open to the public.
  • Weekly half-hour prayers with the Executive Director and other senior leaders.
  • The launch of 40 Days of Prayer devotional for all CRC members (learn more).
  • Time of prayer during the initial convening session of synod (prayer guide).
